Sophia Mylona joined the Ozone Secretariat as its Monitoring and Compliance Officer in August 2008 after working in negotiation and implementation of international air pollution protocols for over 15 years.
Her involvement with ozone issues commenced in 2003 when she was appointed as Norway’s Ozone Officer, serving as national representative to the negotiations under the Montreal Protocol. Her duties in the international arena also encompassed regional collaborative work within the Nordic region and the European Union. From 2002 to 2008 she has also worked with the UNFCCC Secretariat as member of expert teams reviewing the compliance with Convention requirements of countries’ greenhouse emission inventory systems.
Prior to this work, Sophia worked for many years with the development and implementation of the Convention on Long Range Transboundary Air Pollution in Europe as a member of its advisory and scientific technical teams.
Sophia has a PhD and a Masters degree in Air Pollution Meteorology from the University of Oslo, Norway, and a degree in Physics from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece. |
