I, Erik Pedersen, nominated by Denmark, residing in the United States of America, member of the Halons Technical Options Committee declare as follows:
1) I have read the Conflict of Interest and Disclosure Guidelines for the Technology and Economic Assessment Panel, Its Technical Options Committees and Temporary Subsidiary Bodies (“the COI Guidelines”) as adopted by the Meeting of the Parties in Decision XXIV/8.
2) I am a Consultant working part time for The World Bank, Montreal Protocol Program, ENR Global Practice East Asia Pacific1. As part of the Work Bank MP team, my main role is to provide technical advice to the Bank’s client countries in developing their ODS and HFC phase-down programs and assisting them in implementing the programs after they have been approved by the governments and financed by the Multilateral Fund of the Montreal Protocol. As fire protection engineer, I have provided technical advice on Halon phase-out activities, halon alternatives and halon banking and management to the countries in SEA region. With the introduction of flammable alternatives one of my task have been to provide guidance on safety measures when changing over to flammable alternatives in the refrigeration, air conditioning and foam sectors to ensure safety during manufacturing and use.
3) This declaration constitutes my written agreement, pursuant to paragraph 8 of the COI Guidelines, to comply with the Guidelines. I understand that this written agreement is a condition of my service.
4) My interests, and those of my spouse include the following–
a. Proprietary interests: Neither I nor my spouse, have a proprietary interest in a substance, technology or process (e.g., ownership of a patent) to be considered by the Technology and Economic Assessment Panel or any of its technical options committees or temporary subsidiary bodies.
b. Financial interests: Neither I nor my spouse own or exercise control over shares or bonds in an entity with an interest in the subject matter of the meeting or work except for shareholdings through general mutual funds where we have no control over the selection of shares.
c. Employment, consultancy, directorship or other positions: Except for my consultancy work at the World Bank on the Montreal Protocol, fire protection and halon issues, neither I nor my spouse are employed by, do not consult for, do not serve as a director of or hold any other position for any entity which has an interest in the subject matter of the Technology and Economic Assessment Panel.
d. Government advice and other policy development: Neither I nor my spouse provide advice on significant issues to a government with respect to its implementation of the Montreal Protocol or engage in the development of significant policy positions of a government for a Montreal Protocol meeting.
e. Paid research activities, fellowships or grants: Neither I nor my spouse are the recipients of any paid research activities or any fellowships or grants for work related to a proposed use of an ozone-depleting substance or an alternative to a proposed use of an ozone depleting substance.
f. Other interests: Neither I nor my spouse have other interests related to the subject matter of the Halon Technical Option Committee, Technology and Economic Assessment Panel or the Montreal Protocol.
5) The source of funding for my participation in the work of the Halons Technical Options Committee comes from my own financial resources. If possible, I try to link travel related to HTOC with other workrelated travel activities.
6) Pursuant to paragraph 11 of the COI Guidelines I declare that I have not declined to disclose information falling within paragraph 10 of those Guidelines.
7) I undertake to disclose any material change to any of the above information, pursuant to paragraph 9 of the COI Guidelines, within 30 days of any such change.
8) I undertake to make further declarations of interest annually for so long as I remain a member of the Halons Technical Options Committee.
9) I understand that this DOI will expire no later than one year after I have signed it.
