As we fast approach World Ozone Day, I am pleased to inform you that the final assets, available in all UN languages, to help you promote and celebrate this special day, have been finalized.
The video message from UNEP’s Executive Director (English only) and the statement from the United Nations Secretary General, as well as a specially commissioned video to mark WOD 2023, are now available on our dedicated WOD 2023 website. A library of social media tiles – some animated – combined with suggested messaging for ease of use, that capture this year’s theme Montreal Protocol: fixing the ozone layer and reducing climate change can also be found there.
The entire World Ozone Day 2023 awareness raising toolkit is also available on the WOD2023 Trello board.
I hope that the tools we have developed help you to highlight and reiterate the positive impact of the Montreal Protocol on ozone layer recovery and reducing climate change. Especially emphasizing the Kigali Amendment, which through the phase-down of hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs) and improved efficiency in the cooling sector, will provide additional climate mitigation benefits.
Since my last message on World Ozone Day, climate records have been broken, with unprecedented wildfires and floods raging. We need universal ratification and implementation of the Amendment more than ever. Let us use this World Ozone Day to actively promote the Kigali Amendment and reach universal ratification.
