Dear ozone family stakeholders,
I am pleased to inform you that the theme for this year's World Ozone Day to be marked on 16 September is:
Montreal Protocol@35: global cooperation protecting life on earth
This year's theme highlights the Montreal Protocol's positive impact and influence not only on the ozone layer and climate over the past 35 years, but also on nature and biodiversity which are issues in focus in the international agenda at present.
As we face a triple environmental crisis – climate change, biodiversity loss and pollution – we want to emphasize the importance of global cooperation and partnerships which underpinned the success of the Montreal Protocol. Strong global cooperation will continue to be key in our continuing effort to protect the ozone layer and in the global effort to safeguard all life on earth.
In recognition of the wonderful environment the Protocol has helped protect over the past 35 years, the Secretariat has developed eight posters in all six official UN languages for dissemination and use in promoting your World Ozone Day 2022 communication activities and commemorative events.
The posters and the theme of this year's World Ozone Day in all six official UN languages are available on our dedicated World Ozone Day 2022 webpage.
As in previous years, the United Nations Secretary-General's statement for World Ozone Day and other materials such as a comprehensive social media pack, 35 th anniversary commemorative video and message from UNEP's Executive Director, will be shared prior to the day for further dissemination.
The Secretariat would be pleased to receive any information or materials for your planned 35 anniversary commemorative activities for dissemination through our website and social media channels.
Please do not hesitate to contact the Secretariat with any queries you may have.
