Integrated Multi-purpose Cold Store (upgrading/refurbishing for higher environmental performance)

The plant is a multipurpose cold store for chilled and frozen food with an attached packhouse. It has been designed to use two stage refrigeration: mainly two-stage system ammonia and HFC-134a for internal pack house.
Energy efficiency has been enhanced through changes in building design, thermal insulation, selection of refrigeration systems, LED lighting and automation. Solar photovoltaics and systems for heat recovery and recycling of drain and condensate water were also installed. The plant personnel have been trained to use the enhanced and converted systems.
Compared to non-optimized systems, energy saving in the order of 30-40% has been achieved.
