in the refrigeration, air conditioning and foam sectors - bridging climate and ozone efforts through sectorial mitigation strategies (1300-1500)
Time Description Room / Location Level / Floor
13:00
Organizers: GIZ Proklima
Description: In the context of international climate change negotiations, nationally appropriate mitigation actions(NAMA) are considered to be voluntary climate protection measures taken by developing countries and emerging economies, which are embedded within their plans for national development. For about the decades, the Multilateral Fund for the Implementation of the Montreal Protocol has successfully supported technology partnerships and reforms in the refrigeration, air-conditioning and foam sectors (RAC&F). Within possible support through NAMAs the RAC&F sectors can additionally profit from international and national assistance. The GIZ has developed methods and guidelines for NAMAs in the RAC& F sectors and successfully applied them in Thailand, where a sector transformation project was recently selected for funding under the NAMA Facility. Within this side event the GIZ will present methods on NAMA project development in the RAC&F sector, which will be illustrated by recent examples from Thailand and Latin America.

Organizers:    IGSD & TERRE Policy Centre

Description:    Co-Sponsored by the Institute for Governance & Sustainable Development (IGSD)-USA and the TERRE Policy Centre (TERRE)-India This side event will highlight the basic tenets of the international environmental negotiations and provide a framework on how the Montreal Protocol Amendment can be crafted to ‘Start & Strengthen’ HFC phasedown for the safe guarding the ozone layer and climate system. The presentations will focus on how to access and finance next-generation technology, and how to ensure necessary flexibility for continuing essential uses and service of refrigeration and air conditioning equipment, particularly for developing countries with high ambient temperature Experts will make a brief presentation on how the HFC Amendment can be designed for effective and inclusive implementation and taking into account common but differentiated responsibility. Questions and answers will follow.
