Safety standards
Time Description Room / Location Level / Floor
13:00

Organizers: European Union

Description: Safety standards

The EU will host an in-session workshop to discuss international standards and their implications for the transition to refrigerants with a low GWP needed to mitigate climate change. To ensure the safe use of such refrigerants in refrigeration, air conditioning and heat pump applications adequate safety standards are needed. Historically, refrigerants have been used that are non-flammable, of low toxicity and operate at moderate pressure. Therefore, the relevant safety standards have evolved without much consideration on how flammable, toxic and high pressure refrigerants may be applied safely. The process of adapting existing standards is ongoing. Chairs, convenors and technical officers of the committees and working groups responsible for the key safety standards will present an overview of the current status of requirements and activities. Parties will have the opportunity to report on their initiatives related to this process. This in-session workshop should inform Parties on the progress made. The discussions also should identify the means to ensure that standardisation contributes to a sustainable HCFC phase-out and HFC phase-down.

Sustainable Management of Refrigeration Technologies in Mobile Marine and Fisheries Sector
Time Description Room / Location Level / Floor
13:00

Organizers: UNEP OzonAction

Description: Sustainable Management of Refrigeration Technologies in Mobile Marine and Fisheries Sector
The purpose of the event will be to address current practices in the management of existing R22- systems, future developments and trends towards longer term energy-efficient, climate and ozone-friendly alternatives in commercial on-board mobile marine refrigerationsystems. This event will include presentations on status of use and supply chain of ODS and non-ODS refrigerants (on board) in the fishing vessels and fish carriers (mother vessels). This is also in keeping in the lead up to the January 2017- UNEP/ASHRAE international conference on the same subject.
