Title: Galvanising collaborative research to support Kigali Amendment commitments in emerging economies

Abstract: In the context of the Kigali Amendment to Montreal Protocol, the need for leapfrogging to low GWP, energy efficient cooling technologies has been widely identified as key to decarbonising our future. National policies such as India Cooling Action Plan, too, have reaffirmed their commitment to accelerate the pace of R&D and innovation in the cooling sector. As a first step towards realizing these goals, an institutional reset of cooling related R&D programs must happen. This side event will highlight the current mechanisms being followed in publicly funded R&D and draw on lessons and best practices that are conducive for collaborative research work. The aim is to understand how best to facilitate collaboration between public and private entities to ensure a technology aided market transformation.

Title: Embodying the Lifecycle Management of Fluorocarbons: Moving Forward with the Initiative on Fluorocarbons Life Cycle Management (IFL) - Operationalizing the concept into actions

Abstract: The side event will focus on the need to take actions as the whole life cycle management of fluorocarbons, which has not been addressed by the Montreal Protocol and the Kigali Amendment to the Protocol. The IFL’s 2021 work plan consolidated with the IFL Partners will be published and good practices on the countermeasures, such as the recovery, destruction, and recycle of fluorocarbons and the relevant institutional system, in various countries will be showcased.
