Integrated Approaches to Promote Energy-Efficient, low-GWP RAC Appliances in Africa
Time Description Venue Documents
13:00 - 15:00
Organizer: UNDP-UNEP United for Efficiency (U4E)

Title: Market-Based Approach to Promote Energy-Efficient RAC Appliances in Africa

Description: Consumers in developing nations like Sub-Saharan countries prioritize upfront cost when buying refrigeration and air-conditioning (RAC) appliances, often not being aware of the potential long-term savings when using more energy-efficient technologies. Many developing countries, consequently, have to deal with large quantities of less-efficient, often second-hand, imported RAC equipment, relying on controlled / high-GWP substances. This side event will share insights on how to address lack of information on product performance, inadequate policies, higher purchase prices, and a difficult access to financing, which often prohibit adoption of energy-efficient and climate-friendly models.
