High Level Event on the new Global Nitrous Oxide Assessment
Time Description Venue Documents
13:00
Organizer: Climate and Clean Air Coalition (CCAC)

Title: High Level Event on the new Global Nitrous Oxide Assessment

Description: Nitrous oxide is the third most important greenhouse gas and the most abundantly emitted ozone-depleting substance and included as one of six greenhouse gases managed within the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change. National and global climate mitigation efforts tend to focus on carbon dioxide and methane, reflected in new national commitments and the Global Methane Pledge to reduce emissions by at least 30% below 2020 levels by 2030. And yet, mitigation efforts that exclude nitrous oxide could make it much harder, if not impossible, to meet a range of climate, ozone and sustainable development objectives.

The Climate and Clean Air Coalition, UN Environment Programme, Food and Agriculture Organization, and the International Nitrogen Management System, in collaboration with the Montreal Protocol Ozone Secretariat, are presenting the Global N2O Assessment in this high-level event. This assessment highlights the threats of rising nitrous oxide emissions and the multiple benefits from ambitious action. The event will also include experts from academia, civil society and governments to provide an overview of efforts on nitrous oxide across industrial and agricultural sectors, and outline opportunities for international action.

Connecting Stakeholders and Creating Ecosystems of Lifecycle Refrigerant Management (LRM)
Time Description Venue Documents
13:00 - 15:00
Organizer: Ministry of the Environment, Japan (MOEJ), Climate and Clean Air Coalition (CCAC), and Initiative on Fluorocarbons Life Cycle Management (IFL) / Overseas Environmental Cooperation Center, Japan (OECC)

Title: Connecting Stakeholders and Creating Ecosystems of Lifecycle Refrigerant Management (LRM)

Description: The side event will share lessons learned from Japan’s cooperation activities on LRM related to institutional capacity development and technology deployment in Asian developing countries, such as cylinder management used in recovery, recycling, reclamation, and destruction of used refrigerants, in combination with laws and regulations, as well as tracking system to increase the transparency of actions (measurement, report, and verification: MRV). The event will include a role play skit to demonstrate tracking of refrigerants.
